Nyri A. Bakkalian Zeami Motokiyo's 15th century play "The Well-Cradle" (Izutsu), which is about the ghost of a woman who grew taller in her lover's long absence, and now, having clothed herself in their left behind court garb, is waiting for them to return to her. This is also why Grey Dawn is structured like a Noh play!
Nyri A. Bakkalian I'm thinking I want to read more of Seanan Maguire's Wayward Children series. I'm also aiming to read some historical monographs on the US Navy in the early 19th century, in support of a nonfiction project I have in the works.

Nyri A. Bakkalian Grey Dawn was originally a short story, back in 2017! I wrote it on request from a friend, in response to a writing prompt in a writers' group online. I never would've imagined it'd become a book, let alone my first, but here we are!
Nyri A. Bakkalian There are a lot of good things about being a writer, but one of them is definitely the idea that I'm writing words that are, hopefully, going to outlive me and keep reaching people long after I'm gone. It's a kind of immortality.
Nyri A. Bakkalian Drawing helps, sometimes! So does text roleplay as my characters, or writing short vignettes exploring things in their lives. It varies.
Nyri A. Bakkalian I'm currently working on a novel that's at the intersection of lesbian military scifi (as was Grey Dawn) and rom-com, set in 22nd century Maine.
