It is part of life to regularly sit in stands, stand in grocery lines, huddle under bus stop shelters--what have you--and to fall into a conversation with someone bordering one's personal space. If a connection is made, personal tidbits are often shared. Sometimes, a gasp-worthy episode is divulged. Then, the bus comes, the checkout transaction is completed, or the game ends, and away goes the nameless storyteller, never to be heard of again. We are left to wonder about the rest of the story. Fourteen and a Quarter is in its essence a series of such run-ins. It is truer to life to know less about the arc of a human story than to know the whole.
