Mr. Lawson There are four mistakes in your book "Portsmouth an Old Town by the Sea" published 2003. John Langdon did not sign the Declaration Of Independence. He did sign the US Constitution. You repeat four times this fallacy about him signing the Declaration of Independence. Who edits your research and publications? You are prolific writer but a difficult man to contact. Karen Raynes

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Russell M. Lawson I have been thinking about John Smith for many, many years. I believe he was a particularly significant person, to voyage along the unknown (for the English) New England coast in 1614. I have long wanted to re-create it, and finally this re-creation of his voyage is about to be published.

How do you get inspired to write?
Russell M. Lawson I wake up, and the restlessness of the night compels me to put thoughts and experiences to page.

What are you currently working on?
Russell M. Lawson My re-creation of John Smith's voyage to New England in 1614 is soon to be published (in April). I am also writing a history of Bacone College, to be published by Indian University Press this summer, and I am beginning work on a historical portrayal and evocation of servants in colonial America, to be published by Praeger.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Russell M. Lawson Think. Read, write, but mostly, think.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Russell M. Lawson To put myself into the past. I empathize with past people, and engage them in a vicarious dialogue, then re-create what the past was, based on the subject (me) and object (past person) dialogue.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Russell M. Lawson I don't ever have to deal with writer's block, because writer's block, in my opinion, is when a writer has to force oneself to write, which I never do: writing for me is natural, and never forced.
