S.H. Goodhart Two or three years ago, I was doing some environmental activism work. Because I tend to be a little introverted, I found it hard to feel effectual in group work. Around that time, ivory poaching was really becoming a crisis, and I started to freak out that elephants would disappear from the wild. On a long plane ride home, I started jotting down some characters who would do what I knew I personally couldn't do: stop animal poachers. Because I get lots of conservation newsletters, soon after that trip, I heard about the vaquita (probably from Greenpeace, but it might have been World Wildlife Foundation.) It was clear that the vaquitas were in even bigger trouble than elephants. And the real vaquita story (two species going extinct because of the mythical properties of fish bladder) had drama and human folly in it. After I decided to start with that, the plot all came to me very easily.
S.H. Goodhart I am finishing up the second book of the vaquita story. I hope to have "Vaquita Days" out by early November.

At the same time, as a new author, I'm trying to figure out which channels I'm going to use to spread the word about my books. Historically, I haven't been one for either technology or self-promotion... which makes it hard to market anything! But I'm now on Instagram and having fun with that... so maybe I will finally sign up for Facebook...
