If I am in the middle of a story, I leave the current scene and focus on a different one. Otherwise, I step away from the project for a little while and seek inspiration through a variety of channels such as reading or doing things with family and friends. Finding new ideas gets the creative juices flowing again.

Read a lot. Read as many different genres as you can - even if you do not think you like them, the story may have a way of surprising you.

Inspiration comes from a great variety of places. Overheard conversations, a song playing on the radio, an episode of my favorite tv show, a line from a book or movie, or even everyday life.
After I mentally put together a scene (usually while doing mundane tasks), I make myself a cup of sweet, hot tea and sit down to transfer it to paper. Sometimes I listen to music that reminds me of the characters to help me get into the mood of the story.

Sense and Sensibility was my introduction to Jane Austen and the regency era. Throughout the story, as many of the book's characters also assume, I believed Colonel Brandon and Elinor Dashwood would end up together.
They are attuned to one another's tastes, and have developed a true friendship where the two respect and esteem each other. I can picture them skillfully running Delaford, engaging in various pursuits together such as literary parlays, and enjoying a romantic, steady relationship.
Having always felt that my favorite Austen hero and heroine were better suited, I set out to write the story I wanted to read — their love story.

In addition to a sequel to True Love Comes to Delaford, I am working on a children's picture book about a rescue dog.
