As much as I hate to do it, because I am not the exercise type, walking is probably the best idea-machine. Too many things to count or list have inspired me to write. I would put my children, wife, grandchildren and all the good editors I have had at the top of the list.

I have it all the time. There are many ways to get around it. Keeping a pen or pencil in hand -- like it is attached -- is one way. Another way is to use telephone banking and check on my account. When I see how bad that is I get motivated really quickly. If all else fails, I think about giving myself a quick kick in the butt.

I would return to the world of the Alienist and try to bump into one of the characters from the book. Failing that, I would try to find Caleb Carr and offer my services.
