Just write a lot, don't put yourself down, and ask for advice.
I beta read on Fiverr, and there are many sellers who charge small amounts and will read your work for you. Friends can be too kind, but are also fickle, so sometimes it's easiest to outsource. Critiques often can help your book by finding plot holes, asking questions you hadn't thought of or drawing connections that you may not have intended. It's a fun process, if you are willing to look at change and growth as a writer.

I am currently working on a young adult romance. It's narrated by a firecracker of a girl named Olivia, who has a crush on the unattainable Dan Collins and is being pursued by Merch, a chameleon who is trying to find his place in the world. There's a dance, a double trouble team of You Tubers who make Olivia's life difficult and a hot new radio show up for grabs.

I have a lot of ideas. I don't like story prompts, but I do have a rich inner-world life, and many of my ideas come from that.
In terms of actually sitting down to write, I prefer silence, and I don't like to be disturbed, even if a cup of tea is on offer.

I have very small amount of time to write during the day, so I make those minutes count. I write, even when it's hard, because I know that usually some good will come from it.
If I'm stuck on a plot or idea, I usually listen to listen while driving and I seem to be able to pull everything together that way - it may take a few drives to get it sorted though!

Love, Cheeseburgers and Super Nintendo was inspired by something I'd written in a journal when I was a teenager. I questioned myself about what would happen if the guy of my dreams did ask me out, and the book was the result of that question!
