The idea for my most recent book came to me a while ago after I was playing the Devil May Cry HD collection. I sat down and wrote a flash fiction (1000 words or less) off the cuff.
Afterwards, I expanded the flash into a novel (about 50,000 words). Once I looked critically at the finished novel I realized the story needed a lot of editing from a structural standpoint.
I decided to throw out that whole novel, salvage what I could and turn it into the Shamrock Samurai series.

The best thing about being a writer is actually having something to show for all of those ideas you had. To be able to see your idea evolve from a simple thought in your head into something other people can actually hold and enjoy is priceless.
