My biggest question after reading this book was... what accounts for the half-century gap between experience and publication??
Mike Scardino Hi Stephen -- thanks for reaching out. I actually tried many times to write this book over the years, but never hit on a style I liked until a few years ago. I had a list of the stories almost from the beginning -- it was the telling that wasn't there. One evening a few years ago I stayed up to watch a certain movie* and when it was over, the next day, I knew how I would write the book. *More in this article:

I picked up your book at the library and read the flyleaf information to my husband. He thinks he might know you. He lived in Elmhurst until 1972 on Benham Street. Went to St. Bart's for Elementary School. His name is Anthony (Tony) Codan. Any chance you know him?
Mike Scardino Hi Christine - We moved from Elmhurst to Bayside in the mid 50's, when I was 6 years old, so I probably didn't know your husband. However, I spent a lot of time in Elmhurst over the years, and not just on the ambulance. Lots of cousins there plus a grandma and I worked in my Dad's gas station [at the corner of 57th and Van Horn] pumping gas starting at age 13.
