Angie Northey Janet Glesson's biography of Harriet Ponsonby, Lady Bessborough 'An Aristocratic Affair' introduced me to the life and times of early Regency England, and what a wondferful woman she was.
This led me to tell the story of the Regency 'haute ton' as seen through the eyes of a servant girl.
Angie Northey As well as promoting my first novel Amy, The Story of a Coram Foundling, I'm about halfway through writing my second novel Lavender Fields -an homage to my hometown of Mitcham in South West London.
Angie Northey I'm a massive history nut. I love all things history, especially reading about woman in history and it's mostly these excellent biogrophies of woman in history that have inspired most of my stories. But it's the history as seen through the eyes working-class women, a voice very rarely heard.
Angie Northey Write from within yourself, from your heart and soul. Never think you're too insignificant for anyone to read your work.
Angie Northey For me it was actually finding both the courage, belief in myself and the time to put down on paper all the ideas for novels I've had fermenting in my brain for the past thirty odd years. When I read through it, I think "Blimey! Did I do all that"
Angie Northey Writers block is a major problem for me. I work ten hours a day and have two young children, so I have quite a lot on my plate as well as writing.
When it flows, it flows, and I can quite easily pour out my plot and dialogue from my decrepit old brain and onto a Word document.
But sometimes it just won't come out, and the best thing I do is not to force it, either write another scene or event, read it through and it should should come out easily.
That's the plan anyway!
