Ask the Author: Euan B. Pollock

“Any questions about Dakar and Scott, or being a new author, please ask. If I can answer, I will! And if I can't, I'll give it a stab anyway because what doesn't improve with a friendly stab...?” Euan B. Pollock

Euan B. Pollock Freedom, and the ability to express yourself. Freedom, I think, is one of the most fundamental things which gives us happiness. The ability to express yourself is the same - being denied either of these two things makes us unhappy in a deep way. I think, anyway.
Euan B. Pollock I'm a bit of a planner (as opposed to a 'pantser' in the language of writers) in that I plan my stuff out quite a bit. I use the card system to do so, so I know roughly what I'm aiming for. So, when I get writer's block, I just force myself to keep on writing along the plan. Even if what comes out is nonsense, that will need to be rewritten, I still write it. I do find it blows the cobwebs out.

I have two other techniques beyond this. The first is to work on one of the other projects I have (I have three other stories I want to write); the second is to re-read my notes on writing which I've been making from the books I've read and the (single) online course I've done. I find they (a) take my mind off the issue and (b) provide great ideas and inspiration as a way to get around my problem. If anyone has any other ideas, don't hesitate to let me know. Always keen to try new things

Cheers
