Jenna Thatcher I'm sorry about the back surgery, sounds rough.
What I like to do when I get stuck (read = grumpy with my current draft and not in the mood to write it anymore), I write something else.
A short story, a journal entry, a memory from your childhood, a dream you had - anything. It helps you keep writing, even if it doesn't seem super productive.
Good luck!
Jenna Thatcher It's a slice of my head next to some local red rocks. I could find a better picture, but I'm loving my anonymity. :)
Jenna Thatcher I don't think there's such a thing as writer's block.
There's usually one of two problems; either you don't have anything to write about given the current plot, or you're feeling a little worn out.
For the first; if I'm writing a book and I can't think of anything to write in it (or what I'm writing is not...good), then I go write something else. Anything else! Answer a prompt, write a poem, a letter, or start on another book. I have whole folders of ideas and scenes that I've written when I had nothing else to add to my current draft.
For the second; I get burned out. Maybe it's because I went on a binge and did 10K words and that's great but wow is my brain fried. Or maybe I just published a book and my brain sort of sags and says, 'Hey there, I need a break.' So...I do! I read, I play with my kids, I cook some scones, do some laundry...whatever I need to stand back for a second and take a breath.

I'd love to hear anyone else's advice for this, if you care to comment.
Jenna Thatcher I have a Beauty and the Beast retelling, a fantasy, a historical fiction based on ancient Rome, 2 other regency romances (the sequels to A Wager to Win), and a couple others that only have outlines done.
I know, it's a lot. But, the goal is to publish at least 2 books in 2018 - the Beauty and the Beast retelling and at least one of the regency sequels. I
Jenna Thatcher I had recently reread The Blue Castle, where the main character has a life-altering experience which then defines her actions. I thought how much fun it would be to combine it with anonymous letters (like from Crown Duel, of course), and voila.
