Kate Armitage I was fired from a bottom-rung job and was hit with this (ridiculous) notion that I was 25, and therefore too old to turn things around. I felt like I had messed everything up and also that my peers had everything figured out when I hadn't. My news feed was just a long list of people getting promotions and going on exotic holidays. And after a long summer of being unemployed and spectating those exact people, I realised that news feeds are just well-chosen snapshots of the best version of ourselves and that we all feel a little lost and insecure sometimes. I also made it about two friends because I didn't want it to be a girl-meets-guy and gets rescued. There are no damsels in my book, just some cool women who can do anything once they learn to believe in themselves.
Kate Armitage I'm part of such a great community. Writers are some of the kindest people I know.
Kate Armitage I'm currently working on a small prequel to The Wrong Side of Twenty-Five. It's about how Kylie and Alexa met and where their minds were at 18.
Kate Armitage Write and write and write and keep writing! Write what you want to read, not what you think people will want to read or what you think is impressive.
Kate Armitage I leave it and go and do other things. I get some fresh air, socialise, read, watch tv, anything at all until inspiration hits me. Eventually it just clicks. I don't believe in forcing out writing if you aren't feeling it.
