Rowan Faraday I get pulled away so often to do other things that when I actually sit down to write I am ready to go; however, when I need inspiration to fit a mood I want to convey during a scene I turn to music. I also use music to help me get into the minds of my characters. If I can link them to a genre, or band, it helps me decide how they might think.
Rowan Faraday I find it a lot like, "How do you find something that is lost." Stop looking for it. I can't tell you how often I find things once I stop looking for them and move on to something else. If I'm struggling when writing, I stop. Sometimes I move on to a different project or I write a journal entry or just go do something different altogether. Many times coming up with ideas for unrelated stories inspires new ideas for what I'm stuck on.
