Listening to music helps, and I often will put on something that reflects the theme of whatever I'm working on, pour a drink, and pace around my house to work out whatever's got me stuck. Also, I like to go for long walks or bike rides to clear my head.

I'm currently working on finishing up my first novel, which as most of them are, is highly autobiographical, although the events in the book are switched around and embelished.

Being able to get out of your own head and into the head of your characters and your story is like nothing else in the world, except maybe reading, which is a close second. When your own life feels out of control, at least you know you can control the world you're creating. That's what I love.
