I think the Harry Potter universe is amazing. JK Rowling's ability to world build and her attention to detail (and easter eggs) is just incredible!

It was something I had in my mind in high school but never dreamed of turning into a reality. It was a personal story that I had kept bottled up, and after years, needed to finally voice to gain closure for myself. I think the lessons and experiences are something that every closeted teen can relate to. It hits close to home, even for those who are already "out." But more importantly, I realized that I could do better for the world if I wrote it and put it out in the public eye so that LGBT youth who are struggling know that they are not alone.

Usually my writing mirrors something in my life; a person, an experience, a fleeting moment that I wish I could have held onto longer. Those things leave such an lasting impact on me that I just have to get it down on paper.

Go for it! It's a beautiful gift and wonderful thing to do. Try not to get discouraged when it comes to finding a publisher. There's always self-publishing. Nothing, and I really do mean nothing, can stand in your way. If you want it enough, and you're passionate about it, you'll make it happen. I fully believe in your capabilities! You should too!

The fact that every word has a definition, but when you pair them in different combinations, they can create an entire world that someone can picture and escape into.

Just start making a mess! Write down anything that comes to mind, draw a little, pig out on junk food, take a long shower, whatever. Just don't think about having to write anything particular, or anything at all. Just carry on with your day. Randomly, a thought will pop into your head and it might be brilliant!
