A prolonged 20 year period of depression stumbled into a very dark time of severe depression. During that period, I wrote a poem about rising from the dead. Someone told me it was very good, and I suddenly felt I had something worth while exploring.
The poem became the basis for a short story, and then a book, and then 13 books which I am refining now, (seven years later..... long story)
