Devon Blanton I teach professional counseling training classes and I included the health side of counseling (part of my training) and they just loved it. I then began teaching health and nutrition classes specifically and so the need for a book became obvious. It's all so powerful and people need it so much that they can't wait to hear more about it. The book is now at the editing stage so let the work begin! Thank you for your interest in my work. I am grateful.
Devon Blanton I like a quiet environment with my computer and usually a hot cup of bulletproof coffee. I usually write VERY early in the morning long before the sun comes up. I love the solitude and I can get a lot done. Writing can be both fulfilling and grueling. When it gets to the editing part, it's tough and for me a lot more work. I write with relative ease but I wish I had paid more attention in English class. I usually end up with a pretty clean manuscript but trained fresh eyes can ALWAYS improve my work.
Devon Blanton I am working on 3 manuscripts right now. One is a health and nutrition book with recipes, another is a fiction story written from a young woman's perspective from the late 1800s. The third one is a 3 book box set devotional series providing one for each day of the year.
Devon Blanton Write fast, edit slowly. Let it pour from the deep places of your soul, then go back and make it readable to the average reader. Reshape sentences, keep your tenses right and speak the language of the reader. It doesn't matter how smart you are or how clever your points are if they don't translate to your audience. Most of writing has to do with taking what's inside your brain and translating it into terms that your readers can assimilate. If that isn't accomplished then why write at all?
Devon Blanton Getting a chance to express my thoughts is rewarding particularly if they help others. That's always a joy to see something that I say make a difference for others. Even if it's fictional, the joy of bringing someone a smile or an emotion is quite rewarding.
Devon Blanton I really don't get writer's block. I know that people doubt that but it's true. I have written all of my life so I have developed a way to avoid that. I learned to ask the right questions when going through college all the way to my doctorate. If you can ask the right questions, your book becomes the answers. With a little tweaking, it can turn out full and robust just like you hope it will.
