Toni Morgan I ignore it and go do something else creative--like painting. Eventually, the block disappears and I'm once again sitting at the computer, closing my eyes and seeing the story unfold.

To me, writing is painting a story with words, and painting is telling a story with color.
Toni Morgan I write historical fiction--about ordinary people during extraordinary times. The history of what actually happened forms the skeleton of the story. When the writing is flowing, it's like closing my eyes and watching a movie and just writing it down. I love my characters, even the bad guys, and enjoy seeing how their lives evolve.
Toni Morgan Be persistent. The difference between a published good writer and an unpublished good writer is persistence. Also, consider a negative critique, think about it, but don't necessarily take it to heart. Unless everyone who critiques it makes the same observation. Then, maybe you need to reconsider. And get a thick skin--always remember that writing is what you do, it's not who you are. People who point out a fault in your writing is not attacking you.
Toni Morgan My most recent release, Between Love and Hate and Other Stories, is a collection of 18 short stories, some new, some previously published. For a writer, everything encountered in life is grist for the writing mill. At 80, I've encountered a lot and each of these stories contains something--a paragraph, a theme, a scene, an emotion--that I've experienced.
