Hi Pauline,
Not a problem. Thanks for being my first street library reader!
I have a few copies floating around the house and recently read about the street libraries, so thought I’d contribute a few copies. I’m only a suburb away from you, so you weren’t far :)
From memory.... 71,400 words or thereabouts.
I seem to be able to sell a few ebooks when I advertise (through Amazon) which is good... although most sales come from the States. I hadn’t thought of the marketing aspect, which for me is the most difficult part (being an introvert) .. so I’ve never had a book launch or detailed marketing strategy etc... and I’m not a member of ACT Writers or anything like that. Of course in hindsight, I should have addressed those sorts of things earlier...
The reviews on Amazon (US and Australian sites) are pretty good, but gee.. it’s difficult getting any reviews as a new author.
Having said all that, it was a great experience. I’d always wanted to try my hand at creative writing... so I ‘had a go’ so to speak.
Hope you enjoy the read Pauline and great work getting your street library working. I’m sure lots of people appreciate it!
Warm regards
Neil

Hi John, good to hear from you.
More than happy to exchange ideas, bearing in mind I'm a novice at both being an author and using Goodreads!
You have certainly been around... I can see why you have the globe in your profile picture. I did a bit of time around Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia during my Navy days. It took me a few years but I finally changed from a 'bangers and mash' eater to enjoying the flavours of Asian cooking :)
This is my first attempt at doing anything on Goodreads other than posting in a forum, so still not sure how it all works. The marketing/promoting side of things is daunting for me... I wish I'd invested more time in learning about it before I published... but it's all learning I guess.
Anyhow, happy to chat.. would be good to get another Aussie author's view on things, so feel free.
Cheers
Neil

Unfinished business from my previous novel... and recent drug seizures around this part of the world...

By observation and personal experience.

I’m currently working on a sequel to Ice Hunters... this time set in New Zealand and Australia.

Again, I feel hardly qualified... but my advice is similar to that provided by many others: don’t give up!
Neil Roberts
Hmmm. With only one novel I hardly feel qualified to answer this question... but if I must... I’d say the mere fact of having people read and enjoy your work.
Neil Roberts
If I’m struggling with ‘the block’ I usually just try to dot point some key themes, aspects or phrases I would like to ultimately include in the novel. If that fails or I’m completely bereft of ideas... I’ll take a break for a day or two.
