I've always said that my stories tell themselves; this held true for my first published work. Meera, Nadriel, Hana, all the characters seemed to already exist; their story is already told, somewhere, and I'm just the one putting it down on paper. I'm very grateful for that opportunity.

Reading is the number one way, or watching shows/movies based on books. Seeing published works inspires me to keep moving toward my own goals, and it's almost a sense of competitiveness. Traveling also seems to jarr me into writing some of my best work.

Right now I'm about halfway through book 2 of the Jewel Chronicles, Unbound. I had a bit of a slowdown this month, but my work is picking back up again and I hope I can stay on track and publish by May 5th of this year.

Be. Persistent. Rough draft isn't anything like you'd hoped? Re-write it. People aren't being supportive? Screw 'em. Just keep plugging, keep moving, and keep writing; no matter what's happening all around you, make writing your anchor, your centerpoint in life. If you do that, you'll find success eventually. Just keep going.

The feeling of being unlimited. It might sound cliche, but the ability to "be somewhere else" while you sit in a waiting room, deal with insomnia, or just need a few minutes to escape your current surroundings is a huge blessing to me. And of course, the very act of writing is so wonderful that it becomes its own reward.

The best way to get over writer's block, in my experience, is to simply pick up your laptop and go to a different location. It doesn't have to be far, even moving to another room in your house/apartment can work. A change of scenery can really get your mind working.
