I think it was Alfred Hitchcock who said "Drama is real life with the dull bits cut out." Maybe I've led a sheltered life, but I've never found anything in my own life to inspire my writing. Perhaps that makes me lucky too? Sorry.

I'm intrigued but also frightened by the world depicted in Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan. I think I'd like to see what it's like as long as I had the main character Takeshi Kovacs as my guide.
After that, maybe the North Carolina coast - the setting for Where the Crawdads Sing, by Delia Owens. The way she describes the nature is truly inspiring.

Helix Trinity is book three in the Nathan Helix series, so it wasn't difficult to see where it came from. My next project is book four. I was going to write another stand-alone thriller, but I'm excited to share the next book in the Helix series.

By reading other great books. Read in the genre you write, but also don't be afraid to go off-piste. I also read a lot of non-fiction which can deliver some surprising inspirations.

Write. Read about writing. Attend courses on writing. Speak to other authors. Don't be afraid to learn. If you don't give it a try, you won't know. And don't wait. I left it late to start. Take the plunge and remember what Terry Pratchett said - " the first draft is you telling yourself the story." Or something like that. Oh, and read "On writing" by Stephen King. You can thank me later!

Spending time with the characters I invent and also being surprised by what they do. I've been taken on many an interesting journey when they do the opposite of what I was expecting.
The second thing is just getting lost in my own worlds and forgetting about everything else negative that's going on. Some of my writing is a little dark, but I usually find a way of good defeating evil.

Happily this is not something that has visited me. If I get stuck, I stop and go for a walk. If that doesn't clear it, I sleep on it. First thing in the morning is when I have my best ideas and that's normally when I'm able to find my way out of a sticky moment. The other thing is that you can always edit it later so just keep writing.
