Dawn Doig Sitting quietly on the couch, almost in a trance as my eyes tracked Kydee batting a toothpaste cap around the living room, I took a small sip from my glass of lemonade. Gently swooshing the liquid around in my mouth, I suddenly bolted upright, the liquid spewing from my mouth as I watched in horror as a cockroach scuttled across the floor.
Dawn Doig I would go to Scotland, pass through the stones to the past, and meet Jamie and Claire from the Diana Gabaldon 'Outlander' series.
Dawn Doig I see something happen or experience something and then I get an idea for a story. Most of my stories I write as soon as the idea comes.
Dawn Doig Honestly, it's not something I have had to deal with when writing children's picture books. The ideas come and the words flow. I have a few ideas for novels so I write down point sand then put the paper aside. I still do all my writing with pen and paper.
Dawn Doig One of the highlights for me was when my first book was published. That was such a high. Seeing my books in the hands of children would be one of the biggest dreams come true for me.
Dawn Doig Never give up on the dream.
Dawn Doig I don't have anything in the works right now. I have four more stories that I have not had published yet. I am expecting that an idea will come from living in Cameroon.
Dawn Doig The book that was most recently published was inspired by all the children I have had the privilege of working with as an English Language Learners teacher. I watch them struggle to learn a new language, but then watch them blossom with each new achievement. 'E El Gi Piddr' highlights the struggles, but celebrates the achievements as well :-)
