I take a break, ask my people for ideas, and review my notes.
Sometimes I solve a problem in the story and forget that I solved it. So checking my notes is probably the fastest way out of the block.
But asking my friends and family gets me a zany solution and makes my brain start thinking again.

A New York Times Best Selling Author gave me this advice, "Butt in chair."
You have to put in the time.
Also, get support. Surround yourself with other writers; ping ideas off them, play word games with them, and get comfortable with them. These will be your people. I have an amazing support system of fellow artists and writers who support and inspire me everyday.

Bloodsucker was my 2007 Nanowrimo project. I got the idea for it from the song "Re: Brains" by Jonathan Coulten. His song was about everyday zombies, but I wondered about everyday vampires. I asked myself how do vampires muddle through to become vampires? Then I tried to answer that question.
