Jim LaBate This summer, I started reading Ulysses by James Joyce. I believe this novel was voted the best book of the 20th century, and I've never read it, so I figured it was about time.
Jim LaBate After I graduated from college in 1973, I spent two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Golfito, Costa Rica. I was intrigued by the shape of the town because it's like a long, thin belt of land set between the water and one side and steep mountains on the other. I knew I wanted to write a story about that town at some point, but I never imagined I would need almost 50 years before I would finish my novel, "Streets of Golfito."
