Real life. My oldest son was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 20. Being a practical and curious person, I eventually came around to the idea that his crisis was an opportunity for me, him, and perhaps a chance to show others that, as R.D. Laing puts it: "Madness need not be all breakdown. It may also be break-through. It is potential liberation and renewal, as well as enslavement and existential death." A friend in a chat group advised me that a story told as memoir can be a good way to effect a paradigm shift in society.
