There are many fictional worlds I'd like to take a peek into--Jane Austen's immediately comes to mind and Henry James's. But the one I think I'd feel most comfortable in would be the pleasant, quiet English world Barbara Pym creates in her novels. No problem seems so insurmountable that it can't be solved--or at least put to rest--over a nice cup of tea. I'd love to sit with her and her characters and chat over tea and scones in an old Lyon's tea shop.

Reading time will be limited this summer because I am determined to finish the mystery novel I'm working on. Nevertheless, I'm excited about one book that has just been published, and I am putting it high on my list. It's STORYTIME AT THE VILLA MARIA by Constance Walker. I'm also hoping to read THE MADWOMAN UPSTAIRS by Catherine Lowell and DAY AFTER NIGHT by Anita Diamant.

Have faith in yourself and your story. Read good books, especially the classics. Don't let anyone or anything discourage you. Remember that all your favorite authors started out just like you, with the same challenges and ups and downs. So be proud of yourself--and keep writing!

The best thing about being a writer is that you can create your own world and have control over what happens in it. I have to admit, though, that sometimes the characters I create seem to have minds of their own and make me change the story for them!
