Hi Brenda, Good to meet another educator and music lover poet and blogger. I checked out your book briefly. Who is Roy?

Brenda Baker Hi Miriam. It's great to meet you too. I'm so sorry that I didn't see this earlier. I've never been asked a question on Goodreads before, so I'm not accustomed to checking - note to self. And to answer your question, Roy is my brother. I probably should have clarified that in my dedication. We lost Roy when he was only five. I take comfort in the belief that he is now with Dad. Thank you for taking the time to ask me btw. I hope you'll accept my apologies for my delayed response.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Brenda Baker Don't waste time worrying about the opinions of others, or whether your writing is good or not. Use that time to write.

Write your first draft as though no one will ever read it - which they won't unless you ask them to. So, don't worry about that first draft being perfect. It won't be.

Keep writing until you're finished. And when you're finished, ignore the inevitable self-doubt that follows.

Most writers will experience self-doubt at some point - push beyond it. Remember that no matter how good your writing, some will like it and some won't. Regardless, keep your writing honest and true to yourself.

Above all, never lose your passion for the written word.
