Kate S. Richards I have recently finished the final book in the trilogy, so I will give myself a wee break from writing (until an idea pops into my head that can't be ignored). The next project will be writing teacher notes.
Kate S. Richards I wanted to continue with the idea that young friends can work together to uplift others despite difficult circumstances, through sport and an appreciation of nature. In Trainsurfer, a group of friends help homeless children get into surfing. In Saving Thandi, the friends help orphan rhinos. I wanted book three to be set in New Zealand (so that my trilogy embraces both my country of birth and my new home country). Knowing it needed to be in NZ, I thought - "What if Jabu & Kyle came to NZ to surf, and befriended some locals who were trying to take a group of troubled teens to experience snowboarding? Imagine if they snowboarded on Ruapehu? And what if it was the year it erupted?" Then I needed a nasty antagonist, which led me to a complicated family relationship. These were my early ideas.
