There are a few ways, I can get up from my desk in my office and get a drink, move around and those work pretty quickly for temporary blocks. If it's a frustration based block, I'll stop writing and work on orders for my tea shop, "Blackthorn Hoodoo Blends" borne out of my lifelong study and practice of hoodoo. And if it progresses to the point beyond that, I make a writer's dolly out of paper at my desk, label it 'writer's block' and smack it on the desk a few times. /chuckle I look at writing like a job and I have to be disciplined about it or it'll never get done. I use a word count app to keep me honest.

OMGosh. My favorite thing in the whole world is the 'lightbulb' moment when someone gets what I'm talking about and is able to put the puzzle pieces into place with where I'm at. I'm a hugely visual person, even smells have colors to me. When I can express something deeply meaningful and another person gets it on such a level, there's nothing better.

Write. Every writer out there wants to be better than they are, including me. The way we get to that point and exercise those 'muscles' is by doing it. On days that I am stuck about what to write and how to write it, I start writing about my day, my grocery list, anything to get words on a page until I can start writing what I need to talk about. I can write in my head all day and organize my thinking, but until it makes it onto a page, I'm not really writing.

My current project takes me to the lessons we are taught as children and how we can apply them as magical workers.

Nature is a huge inspiration, our connection of inner worlds and nature is so important to me. When writing 'Blackthorn's Botanical Magic' I'd write an oil per day. I'd start with the oil diffusing in my office and let the plant speak to me. In 'Sacred Smoke' I had to look at it from the opposite angle of common uses for each ally. It was a great way to mix up the energies in my mind. Really got the thoughts rolling.

I've been using the techniques for this book for over 25 years, but in writing 'Blackthorn's Botanical Magic' I kept having the itch to include incenses, recipes, and cleansing techniques. I had to start on this as soon as BBM was finished because it was yelling to get out. 'Sacred Smoke' was born.
