Isabel Bercaw I was inspired to write about a person with an addiction to pain by witnessing people choosing comfort over risk in the face of potential happiness and fulfillment. I wanted to encourage people to consider the impact that self-sabotage may be having on their lives. I also wanted to write a story that doesn't glorify the realities of self-harm but rather faces the challenges and consequences of these actions head-on. Most of all, I wanted to restore some hope to anyone who's lost it.
