Thomas Michael Garguilo In 2016, I was cleaning out a closet in our house. I stumbled across some old photos, more than 100, of when my first partner re-opened Stonewall in 1990.
I set up a website to share these photos with the public because I think they are of historical significance. Most people are unaware that the Stonewall Inn closed right after the 1969 uprising. 53 Christopher Street was not a gay bar again until Jimmy Pisano decided to open his first bar there.
I decided to write this novel to draw more attention to the photos. To lead people to the website.
It's a bit unconventional to write a book to get people to look at some old photos. But I wanted to tell the story and give Jimmy credit for doing it (he died in 1994 from AIDS). The novel is one way to do that.
