I guess that answer might be different for every writer. For me, writing provides both an outlet for expression and communication and an entrance into a world of self examination and reflection. Two sides, one coin.

I can't remember ever having experienced writer's block.
Sometimes writing is like being swept away in a white water kayak. You type as fast as you can, scribble cryptic notes, and work like hell just to keep up.
Other times, the stream opens up into a wide, calm reservoir, where you can relax, lay back, and enjoy the sun on your face. Don't panic when things slow down. I think writer's block is mostly self-inflicted.

Read every spare minute. And don't read fluff. Read material that someone labored and agonized over. What you learn in class is good. What you learn from reading is better.

I am currently working on book four of The Other Side Of Dead series. I think it may be the strongest book so far. I'm having a lot of fun watching it unfold.

I don't get inspired. I'm always inspired. Everywhere I look I see characters dying to be written, phrases needing to be turned, voices to be mimicked and titles demanding to be penned.
I think it helps to realize that you are, in fact, yourself caught up in a sweeping adventure that is unfolding in real time. You don't have to come up with a story. You are immersed in one.

I had the urge to write a story about time travel. It was going to be short, simple in plot, with limited point of view.
Six years later, I'm publishing a series of six novels, with almost twenty POV characters woven together in a highly complex plot, and there isn't one drop of time travel anywhere in it. Go figure.

I am on a Koontz kick. Many more titles to read there. I'm working on a Sci-Fi series, so I need to do a deep dive into that genre soon. But I have a yearning to take another trip through the Russian Classics. Tolstoy's War and Peace seems appropriate at the moment, and It's been a few years since I've read that. Dostoyevsky's Brothers Karamazov is another favorite. And Hemmingway. I need to revisit him. And Melville. A fourth read of Moby Dick would be good. And there are so many books I've not read even the first time. I'll never get it all done in one lifetime. I think heaven might be sitting in God's presence, finally getting a chance to read all those titles you couldn't get to, or get enough of. Hell would be spending eternity looking at that TBR stack, with all the books dunked in superglue.

It was her worst nightmare. All her dreams had come true.

I would go to Tolkien's Shire, kick my shoes off, lay back in the grass, and spend a few months learning to play a penny whistle.

Family genealogy indicates I am descended from a Duke who lived in the 1600's. I love time travel stories. The concept has always intrigued me, and I've yet to write a time travel adventure. Maybe one day I'll travel back and meet the Duke.
