Right now, in 2023, I am thoroughly engaged by Erich Maria Remarque's marvelous ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT, after reading Carson McCuller's engaging THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER and Richard Wright's extraordinary NATIVE SON, among some others. Future reads this year will include James Agee's A DEATH IN THE FAMILY and others too numerous to name. I tend to gravitate to older fiction, but like to bounce back and forth from old to new.

Find what you enjoy writing about and the form you want to write about it in and just write. Write without concerns for what others will think; your peers, agents, publishers, etc. In the end, what matters is that you are creating.
