Read a lot and just go for it. Write rubbish, write with no grammar or punctuation, write in rambling sentences....anything, just write, Soon it will become a habit and the serious writing can begin.

Definitely being able to get all the crazy things that go on in my head down onto paper helps to keep me sane :)

This isn't always easy! Usually, when I have trouble getting into writing for the day, I will do some 10-minute writing exercises using prompts, story cubes or writing maps. If that doesn't work then I take a break and read a book.
