I have to clear my schedule and go to a place by myself for a few days, for each new chapter I write. We have free Sheraton points, so I wrote most of the chapters of this book in a lovely Sheraton room, in the still, clean, uncluttered, perfectly quiet place, where the world is shut away, all notifications on my laptop and phone turned off. I write and write and write late into the night, not looking at the time. I take naps when I feel like it. Go for a swim. Then right back to writing. It's so wonderful.

I wanted to write book #2, but the current book still needs some love to market it to the audience that wants to read it. So right now, I'm learning Instagram so I can influence people. And speaking, doing podcasts, guest blogging, upgrading my website with really deep, useful companion tools for Across the Street and Around the World.
And then in quiet moments, I'm dreaming about the pre-teen fantasy fiction book that's half finished. I'm jotting down quotes about one of the characters right now. Saber is a Sennex, a wise Counselor, that's the guide in the story, who is trying to inspire sixteen-year old Jayda to discover that she's the last of the seven ones that needs to discover the last of the Seven Gifts, and use it to dispel the Miasma fog that threatens to keep the sleepy town of Biddeford Mills in a trance.

It's like applying for the job you've always wanted. Do the work. Do the research. Get smart about why you're writing what you're writing, and figure out how that particular genre of book gets published.

I love ideas. I love ging away for a few days, completely by myself when I'm working on a new chapter. I just sit in silence for a few hours to let my mind quiet down. And then I just get to block out the whole world, and write my ideas on paper. And influence people. I love the process.

I read other books on the same topic as the chapter I'm working on to get inspiration, and do research.
