To not give up. Outline your ideas, and keep going back to them. Read what inspires and motivates you as you cultivate your book into a cohesive outline. Set writing goals, but do not become rigid and chained to them. Have someone in your corner that is just as excited about the subject as you are. I had a coworker that pushed me to keep writing. As I finished a chapter she was eager to read it and then waited patiently for the next until my novel was finished.

Meeting and talking to other people that are just as passionate about the subject I am writing about as I am. Hands down, this has been the most rewarding and satisfying aspect of publication!

My second novel is with an editor right now. It is a nonfiction literary critical analysis discussing symbolism and parallelism between a famous novel published in 1897 and a phenomenal series which was introduced exactly a century later. Stay tuned!

I find a place where I can be alone and away from any distractions. I am more productive early in the mornings right after I have had my coffee and breakfast. I also need to be inspired. This means full of creative thoughts about what ever subject I am writing about. For example, if I am writing about cats, then I need to be around plenty of cats and cat lovers/owners, and talking to cat veterinarians. You would find me reading about them and watching movies and documentaries about them. If I find myself not in the mood, I do not beat myself up -- rather I find a way to get inspired again and pick back up after a good nights sleep.
