Emily Dale I clean my house or de-clutter a wardrobe or something. Doing that to music also helps. I find physical activity tends to unlock my thoughts but sometimes, you just need to leave the writing for a bit too. If I'm having trouble with dialogue, I'll 'talk' the dialogue out in the car or shower, as if I'm rehearsing a part in a play etc (and hoping people think I'm on a phone call). Saying it out loud lets you know if it sounds silly.
Emily Dale Keep going. Don't stop writing, if that is what you want to do. Find time in your day to pursue it, even if it's just thinking about it. Hard work, determination and persistence will take you further than talent (although, talent helps). I found that doing a university degree in writing, really helped me to gain confidence and a skill set that I would not have developed otherwise. While a degree may be too much for some people, look at short courses or festivals with writing workshops to improve your writing. And be polite, kind and professional when you pursue a publisher or peer review.
Emily Dale Book Two of The Fray Series
Emily Dale I revisit old book favourites in the genre I am writing in or watch movies that I love that hold a similar essence or character that I admire. Sometimes, it is just the deadline that inspires me!
