I promise I am not being flip when I say this: I just live my life. I wake up. I engage. I read. I read. I watch and observe. I listen. I talk. I live, and the stories come to me in those experiences and interactions. I love being a writer!! I will never run out of "source material."

Be authentic both to your voice and your process. Never, ever compare yourself to anyone. Again, both in your voice and process. Research and plotting should not replace writing time. Ever. Recognize those items, if they are part of your writing process, are just that-PART of your overall process.
A HUGE part of that process is writing. If you are planning, you are not writing. You are planning for your writing.
Make the time to write then write and only write. Otherwise, and I am speaking from experience here, you will find yourself with all kinds of amazing charts, graphs, timelines, vision boards, worksheets, cards, playlists, etc. and not one fracking word of your story actually written!

I don't think I've ever had writer's block. If I don't write then writing becomes harder. The more I write, the easier it gets. This is my experience. I know several authors who have experienced it. My advice to them has always been to write something else or to step away from writing altogether-leave the house, do something physical within your abilities.

Fantastic question! I want to say "Harold and the Purple Crayon." I have always been a storyteller-mostly verbal-but Harold was a watershed book for little me. I remember writing stories wanting to duplicate the feeling I got with Harold. Maybe I will get there one day. I would LOVE to be the reason someone chooses to write even if it's because they think they can "do it better." 😘 Have at it. We need more voices!
