The lack of constraints, totally and completely. I'm in a position where I don't have to earn my bread and butter from this, so I can manage it how I like. But just above this, beating it a bit, is the ability to share my writing and encourage others, now THATS a feeling!

Honestly, I don't write enough to really suffer from it. I manage maybe 3,000 to 4,000 words a session, and only do one session a day, so I'm not gazing at a mountain of 10,000 words plus to intimidate me. When its really slow, and I feel myself lagging, I deliberately try to daydream, just let my mind wander to spark new ideas for short stories. I usually get one or two then find I can finish off what Ive started.

Simply write. The main thing is to write no matter what, no matter how bad you think your writing is. Even if you think it is complete rubbish, still write it. Everything I have heard and seen says that your first drafts will nearly always be crap, so don't be put off.
Second and last, never show your work to your loved ones, particularly for comment or critique. If you want honest critique, join a writers group or on line circle, and let them do it. Your loved ones will always be put in an awkward position if you ask them. When you get published, when your book is out, give them a signed copy if you really want to.

The core ideas came from my experiences with mega-cities, wilderness and people I have met as I have traveled. On top of this there are a few books I have stumbled across, old ones, that have really given me an insight into the changes that filter through across time. If I do the job right in the book, you will see what I mean.

I am working on my first novel. Its a tale about two different families and societies and how they react to the unexpected and unknown. Its sci-fi in that the placement and the events are fictional and based in a sci-fi framework, but the core of the novel are the people, their changes and their development.
Hopefully it will be finished and published by 2020, Im giving myself two years.
