People seem to be increasingly looking for their identity in the various groups or categories that they belong to (political party, gender, and hundreds of others). I started wondering: Have we lost site of the unique and unrepeatable calling of each and every person?
In my conversations with many friends over a number of years, it became increasingly clear to me that the unique purpose of every human life is being lost in this cultural malaise.
As I wrestled with my own vocational discernment, a new and fresh approach to cultivating the unique calling of each and every person emerged. I felt compelled to help write a book about it because it transformed my life and the life of everyone it has touched.

Inspiration is not something that I can manufacture or conjure up. It's something that happens to me.
I find that it tends to happen when I am encountering new people and situations...especially when they are unexpected. I call these "collisions".
So I put myself in positions to get collided with as often as possible!

I'm working on a new book about the role of scapegoating in business (and increasingly, in society as a whole). It draws on the work of the French anthropologist René Girard.

Writing a book is like starting a dialogue with thousands of people at the same time. Writing is only the beginning. Once something is published, it takes on a life of its own and begins to be woven into the lives of others. So the people that I meet and talk to as a result of my work are the best thing about being a writer.
