I've always been fascinated with Richard Nixon. He's like a Greek tragedy in many ways. He overcame so many obstacles and harnessed his incredible intelligence to become someone who should have gone down in history as one of our greatest Presidents. Instead, he succumbed to his inner demons and became the only one ever to resign in disgrace. In reading about him, over the years, I realized that I knew very little about his law career. Books about him tend to either gloss over his "wilderness years" or focus on his political activities. As a legal reporter, I was very interested in reading about his career as a Wall Street lawyer and I kept waiting for someone to write about it. Finally, I decided to just do it.
