Ludo Stellingwerff I use writing as a combination of reading a book I like and solving a puzzle at the same time.

My characters are the main leading forces, getting to know them is the main inspiration. At the start, I don't know where their story is leading, but during writing, I'm finding this out. In the meantime, I'm working on solving the consistency puzzle, making everything and everybody believable and logically sound.

The result is characters, living their normal lives in a future world, getting placed in abnormal situations, learning to make sense of that abnormality. And through that process, we (as readers) learn about their normal lives as well.
Ludo Stellingwerff I've started working on the prequel to the series, situated at the time of the actual Mercury Massacre. Pre-dating the series by almost a hundred years, it won't be directly about Jenny Taggart, but it does help with world building and stage setting. But as in all three earlier books, the character's story is the most important aspect, with the world building as a secondary goal. The prequel is expected to be somewhat longer than the other books, aiming for >80k words. (First 14k done by now)
