Music honestly. After that, I literally write dreams I've had that I can remember. And base the story on what I can remember.
But music is key. I wrote every single word to a playlist I had made based on the characters in my head. Lexi is very into 80's synth pop and rock. Sadist is into heavier metal and I felt like his voice really took to a new level with the music I picked for him.

I'm so new I don't really have an answer to that at the moment. But I'd have to say the reward of seeing your dreams on paper and others being able to share them with others is a huge plus.

I leave my book for a day or two. Watch a movie or listen to music I feel reflects my story then I come back to it.
