READ! The best way to understand writing structure and what works for you as a writer is to figure out what works for you as a reader. I always write as if I'm writing to myself as a reader. As a reader, what would I want to see? What would I like? What would make me roll my eyes? What would make me cry? That's what I write.

Usually music helps - it puts me into a creative headspace and helps me start to see different images in my minds eyes. Also just reading other books really gives me inspiration. I read a book about every other day and they usually always shake some idea loose!
