Writing comes easy to me. I have been writing practically all my life. I wrote exclusively in Bengali when I was in Calcutta: did not have the required dexterity to write in English. Since I graduated from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, I felt much more confident to write regularly in English. Now both languages come to me naturally. I get inspired by seeing the real world around me: the people, the human conditions, the pain, suffering, and joy. And my own life as an immigrant in America: so many raw experiences! I wish I had more time to write.

I translated about twenty short stories quite some time ago, but did not have time to put them together into a manuscript. Always thought of letting the Western readers know about the rich treasures of Bengali and Indian literature (often unknown and unrewarded), and this book is my first organized effort to do it. I plan to continue this work in the coming years.
