Azaria M.J. Durant There were a couple of things that came together to create the original idea of Broken Arrow (which, let me tell you, is nothing like what you will read). I had been writing a historical fiction at that point, but what I really wanted to write was fantasy. My mom got me this writing curriculum for teens called 'One Year Adventure Novel' at the same time as I was reading 'The Hunger Games' for the first time. Together, they inspired what was the first and original idea for Broken Arrow.
Azaria M.J. Durant I make a habit to write every day, but there are some days where I feel more inspired to write than others. When I write, I usually play epic instrumental music - usually connected to the scene I'm writing that day - to help me feel inspired.
Azaria M.J. Durant I am currently working on editing the sequel to Broken Arrow, which will pick up two years after the conclusion of Broken Arrow. I can't say much else about it, but I can say that its going to be epic!
Azaria M.J. Durant The best thing about being a writer is that I get to spend time in a world all of my own making. It's like playing make-believe as a kid! Only I'm playing the same game over and over again, making it better and better each time.
Azaria M.J. Durant Believe in yourself. As a writer, there will be all these doubts crowding around you all the time -both from outside sources and from within your own mind - and you have to ignore them. You have to believe that what you are working on is important, either to you personally, or to someone else. And you have to stick with it.
Azaria M.J. Durant I tend to look at writer's block as less of a reality and more of a mental block that anyone can fall into if they aren't careful. Diligence and not allowing room for laziness to creep in has been a very effective cure for my form of writer's block.
