I loved that Jia was a woman of color with financial stability, so that her journey was focused on inner passion instead of exterior distress. Was that a conscious decision?

Swati Hegde Thank you for asking this amazing question! There are two reasons for this very conscious decision on my part: first, Match Me If You Can is inspired by Jane Austen's Emma, so I wanted to maintain that Emma-esque spoiled rich girl personality for Jia, too. And second, we see far too many examples in the West of India as a poor, third world country full of struggle. I wanted to counter that and show the more cosmopolitan and urban side of Mumbai.
