I'd really love to do another nanny-related book in the coming future. In connecting with so many nannies on social media I've found people wishing for more books that mentioned nannies. It's a family structure that's a lot more common than people realize, especially with the rise of women in the workplace, and I think that kids, parents, and the nannies themselves could benefit from the normalization of this fact.

I have always loved creating... from writing, to art, to stick forts in the woods, there is something in me that is just wired to create. And so I would have to say the best thing about being a writer is getting to create something new to share with the world. Plus, as a writer of children's books I have the opportunity to illustrate what I write, which brings another thing I love into the mix.
I think my second favorite thing about being a writer is knowing that what I write has the ability to impact the people who encounter it. Whether it's helping a child to know how much they are loved by their caregiver, or assuring someone struggling with depression that they are not alone, words can be powerful and life-changing.

It sounds simple, but I think one of the best things to do when you want to start something new is to just dive in! Yes, it's definitely good to do your research, find holes in the market, brainstorm ideas... but I also think it can be really easy to get stuck in that stage and never actually begin. So just start writing! Not every idea is going to be golden, not every project will necessarily go somewhere, but once you get started you'll start to get a better sense of your voice as a writer and what kinds of topics interest you. With practice you'll naturally improve and can hone in on a more specific path from there.

After I graduated from college I spent a year and a half nannying a little girl named Caroline. Meggoline started as some drawings that I was going to give to her when her family moved, in order to help her remember some of the fun times we had. I also had been looking for some sort of children's book to read with her to help explain why I wasn't going to be around much anymore. I had a fear that she was going to feel abandoned... I mean, I spent 30-40 hours a week with her for a substantial amount of time! But I really wasn't able to find any books that met my needs. So I started to write my own, figuring I'd print a copy for her and one for me and that'd be the end of it. Little did I know, the nanny community has been desperately looking for a book like this!
