Dustin Riedesel Writer's block hits me in two ways. Either I'm confused about the direction of the narrative, or I'm not motivated to write. The motivation part is easy. It's like Nike said about working out. Just do it. The nice thing about having a belt under my book is that I now know that inspiration isn't that important to the quality of writing. When I go back to edit a draft, I can't tell the difference in which writing was inspired and which writing I slogged through. Now, direction of narrative is tougher. What idea am I trying to get across? My answer to this is to have a lot of information coming in. Podcasts, reading, quality movies, Bible studies, recovery groups, etc. Taking in any art and philosophy on dealing with the chaos of life fuels me and enlightens me on how to approach whatever ideas I'm sorting through with my blocked narrative direction.
Dustin Riedesel I work for a big, Silicon Valley company, and the jargon that got thrown around about millennials from executives and coworkers always felt condescending. Some would say stuff right to my face like, "Millennials are the worst people to hire." I was 31 when I started writing the book. I realized that the idea of millennials was not in line with who millennials actually are. The word "millennial" was starting to take on all these negative connotations, and so I set out to write about what my generation is actually guilty of and who we really are. I learned a lot, did my best to make it entertaining, and I hope others share my curiosity.
